چکیده
42 Abstract:In this study, a test methodology for measuring load-dependent (mechanical) power losses of helical gear pairs is developed. A high-speed four-square type test machine is adapted for this purpose. Several sets of helical gears having 3 different pressure angles are manufactured, and their power losses under dip lubricated conditions are measured at various speed and torque levels. A general trend found in the experimental testing was that the higher the pressure angle, the lower the temperature-increase of the lubricant across the gearbox while being tested at identical conditions. This is an indication of the improved efficiency. Finally it was concluded that high-pressure angle helical gears (25°) pressure angle running at high speed provide improved performance over more traditional gear pressure angles (20°). Key Wordsload-dependent power losses, helical gear, pressure angle, efficiency.

A Comparative Study of Tooth Wear, Mechanical Power Losses and Efficiency in Normal and High Contact Ratio Asymmetric Spur Gears
The surface tooth wear which occurs at the gear contact region due to inadequate contact strength of the tooth is one of the predominant modes of gear failures. Currently, higher contact ratio spur gears are increasingly used in power transmission applications such as aircraft, wind turbine, automobiles and compact tracked vehicles due to their high load carrying capacity. In this work, the di...

Efficient transmissions systems are key to producing competitive motor vehicles that have a smaller environmental impact. Gears are the main components in vehicle transmissions and although they are already highly efficient, there is still room for improvement. In this study, the focus falls on the lubricant used to create separating films between gears and to dissipate heat. When driving, the ...
متن کاملOptimal Shapes for Gears
| Gear theory is reexamined and we nd optimal shapes for gears. As optimality criteria, we allow: (1) minimal frictional losses (highest eeciency) assuming linear law of friction or (2) uniform maximum stress (it will wear out slowly and last the longest) assuming Hertzian contacts or (3) uniform maximal temperature, assuming we are in a high power limit in which all heat is removed by the lubr...
متن کاملInfluence of Addendum Modification Factor on Root Stresses in Normal Contact Ratio Asymmetric Spur Gears
Tooth root crack is considered as one of the crucial causes of failure in the gearing system and it occurs at the tooth root due to an excessive bending stress developed in the root region. The modern power transmission gear drives demand high bending load capacity, increased contact load capacity, low weight, reduced noise and longer life. These subsequent conditions are satisfied by the aid o...

Contactless mechanical components are mechanical sets for conversion of torque/speed, whose gears and moving parts do not touch each other, but rather they provide movement with magnets and magnetic materials that exert force from a certain distance. Magneto-mechanical transmission devices have several advantages over conventional mechanisms: no friction between rotatory elements (no power loss...
